HIGHLIGHTS OF THE

LATEST CRIME WATCH MEETING

- The Police department is looking for new Crime Watch Members.

You don’t have to attend meetings, just receive emails and report

suspicious activity in your area.

Email Officer Tom Rigatti>>   trigatti@bethelparkpolice.net

Or call 412-831-6800 ext. 104

- Only call 412-833-2000 to report a crime, suspicious activity or any emergency.  If you call 911, the call goes to a center in Pittsburgh, then that operator calls Bethel Park Police dispatch, which will slow response time.

- Be On The lookout for Suspicious People looking around homes.  Burglaries during daylight hours have increased.  If it looks out of the ordinary, call the Police to have that person checked out.  412-833-2000

- If you have people come into your home to do service work, ask them for their Identification and write down their names.  If something goes missing or something is wrong in the future, you will be able to report who was recently in your home. Don’t rely on the company you hired.

Please remove any valuable items from your vehicle and LOCK your

vehicle when parked anywhere, even in front of your house.

Items that have been stolen include I-pods, GPS systems and

any valuable items left in view.

While at home or out shopping, please watch for anyone

looking in vehicles or acting suspiciously.  Report it promptly!

- Teach your Children and Grandchildren the 412-833-2000

Number for Emergencies.

- There are reports of people being scammed via the telephone.  If anyone calls and asks you for money to be wired immediately, call the Police first and check it out.  They can call another agency if a family member really is, in trouble.  DO NOT SEND checks or money orders to an unknown person asking for your help or assistance without calling the Police first to check it out.

The Police get calls daily on elderly people that have lost a great deal of money thinking they were helping someone.

- Now that the winter weather is here, call a neighbor or close relative ahead of time, if you have any special needs.  They can note it in case of a winter emergency occurs such as a blizzard or prolonged power outage.

If you know of a neighbor with special needs, make sure you check on them

especially during the winter months.

- If you have a GPS unit in your vehicle, DO NOT set the “Home” setting to your address.  If a criminal breaks into your vehicle, they press “Home” and they now know where you live and that you are not home.  Use a local landmark as your “Home” setting.  Use the High School, The Police department or local landmark as your “Home” GPS Setting.

- Beware of Purses while shopping.  Thieves are now looking to steal wallets from the purse.  This will not arouse suspicion until they are out of the store and you go to checkout and realize your wallet is missing from your purse.

- Write down all your credit card numbers and the 800 customer service numbers ahead of time.  Store in a safe place at home.  In the event of a stolen credit card, you can call the number right away and you have your credit cared info with you at home.  Or better yet, copy both sides of the cared and store

At home.
